Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Callies is the daughter of two university professors. She speaks basic Hawaiian and enjoys traditional Hawaiian music. In her down time, Sarah enjoys dancing the Argentine tango and has even taken up low-flying trapeze. She also enjoys spending as much time as possible at home with her husband, playing chess and cooking. Both her and her husband enjoy getting outdoors and backpacking. They have a cat and plan to welcome a puppy soon.
As a student, Sarah placed a strong emphasis on education and balanced her schoolwork with her passion for the stage. In high school she landed her first lead in a production of Shakespeare's As You Like It. After graduating from the Ivy League's Dartmouth College with an undergraduate emphasis in Feminist Studies and a Senior Fellowship in Indigenous Theology in 1999, she attended Denver's National Theatre Conservatory to pursue her love of acting and to complete her masters of Fine Arts degree.
Once she finished with school, Callies moved to New York City and secured her first acting job on camera, a role opposite Oliver Platt in Queens Supreme. She has since appeared on Law and Order: SVU and Dragnet. It was during this time that she was chosen as one of the new faces of L'Oreal, and has been featured in an advertising campaign for the company. In the fall of 2003, Sarah had her big break when she landed the female lead in the short lived series "Tarzan" on the WB.
Post "Tarzan" life has been very kind to Sarah. Even though the show was never picked up, she did land the lead role on the ABC show "The Secret Service", and she even got the female role in the movie, "The Celestine Prophecy". While waiting for another show to come her way, Sarah guest starred on the hit show Numb3rs for an episode. Then in the fall of 2005, FOX cast Sarah in a show called "Prison Break" which eventually became a huge hit. Next up for Sarah was the movie Whisper also starring Josh Holloway. After several delays and a couple name changes, the movie went straight to DVD in November 2007. Currently Sarah is a stay at home mom to her little girl
Keala.
