Paying Debts

Lara’s search for Shangri-La was her most personal hunt. The tales of Shangri-La were ones of immortality. Lara was not searching for Shangri-La for herself, but in order to save the life of her prior nanny, Mrs. Baker.

Mrs. Baker had been hit by a truck a few months prior and she was close to death. Lara sought Shangri-La to save Mrs. Baker and she would do whatever it took to discover the hidden land.

Stealing a high tech helicopter, being shot out of the sky, traps of death and guardian beasts tried to keep her from Shangri-La, but, in the end, Lara found the city and learned that the legends about the immortality were true. Mrs. Baker could be healed and live forever in Shangri-La. However, Mu’Tin, the apparent leader of the city, informed Lara, that, though she was welcome in Shangri-La, she was not able to leave.

If not for the debt Lara felt she owed Mrs. Baker, Lara likely would have remained in Shangri-La, but, instead, she risked it all to escape and bring her former nanny to the magical land.

Lara scaled a mountain, ran over sharp stones with bare feet, but, in the end, she could not escape the Fen Tai – the beast guardian. Lara was captured and Mu’Tin threw a necklace around her neck, informing her that she was about to become a Fen Tai, for any who tried to leave Shangri-La, became its guardians.

Chase located Lara at that moment, and held Mrs. Baker in his arms. Lara pleaded to Mu’Tin that she take Mrs. Baker into Shangri-La and then Lara would accept the fate Mu’Tin had set on her.

Lara never knew why Mu’Tin set her free, but Mrs. Baker was taken into Shangri-La, where she would be cured and would live forever.
